IRP & IFTA

Multi-State Registration & Fuel Tax Compliance.

The International Registration Plan (IRP) and the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) are two foundational programs for any trucking company operating in multiple states or provinces.

What is IRP?

IRP is a reciprocity agreement among states of the US and provinces of Canada which recognizes the registration of commercial motor vehicles registered in other jurisdictions. It allows you to pay a single registration fee to your "base" state, which is then distributed to other states based on the miles you drive in each.

What is IFTA?

IFTA is an agreement among the lower 48 states of the US and the Canadian provinces to simplify the reporting of fuel use by motor carriers that operate in more than one jurisdiction. Just like IRP, you file one report to your base state, and they handle the distribution of taxes.
